The Immortal Rules

The Immortal Rules - Julie Kagawa Brilliantly written, great world building, captivating, thrilling, lots of action and suspense, engaging and I loved it! Despite all the distractions my way (being on a quick vacay), at the end of the day, no matter how tired, I always looked forward to picking up where I stopped.

I love how Allison, the heroine's character's is written in a most relatable and likeable kind of way.

And no, I did not like Stick, but again it showed the lowest scum a "supposedly" friend can be and that you cannot change it's nature.

I love Ezekiel a.k.a. Zeke... I have high hopes of hearing more of him on the next books.

I love how the author or the story describe what vampires are.... that they are monsters, a predator, but what kind of monster is up to them (well, for a change... it doesn't make you more beautiful when you turned vampire or something like that)... set in a dystopian world... written in an uncomplicated way that it is so easy to get caught into.

Ask Me

Ask Me - Kimberly Pauley YA.... suspense....cute, weird, short kinda rushed, and predictable... could be better.... ;)

Stained

Stained - M.J. Fields Besides the lots of editing problem that sometimes makes it a tad bit harder for me to understand, there are so many holes in the story regarding Maddox's kidnapping and his rescue that I wondered if I was suppose to read a book before this. How and when did Maddox and Harper meet? Did I miss it? And there's a whole bunch of characters that could get really confusing!

But moving on... since this is more about Maddox dealing with the aftermath of his kidnapping.... seriously if you have been kidnapped and tortured for 16 years, shouldn't he be seeking professional help. I don't see that here. (Well, he did, finally, at the end for like a couple of months?) He also seems to have this need to find those kids that are missing, who are kidnapped like him, but that "need" seems to have just disappeared. He is easily tempered that makes him violent, and deals with his demons through alcohol, his music, forming his own rock band called "Burning Souls", then comes drugs and sex.

He also professed his love towards Harper, a very possessive love. All the while he goes and get's himself off with other women.... which isn't really sex cause he is only getting BJ's and he never kissed them!

“How many people have you kissed?”

“Three,” he looked at her and raised his eyebrows as if to say HA!

“I have kissed one.”

“I know this, what’s the point here Harper?”

“How many people have you touched?”

“Again the answer is dependent on…”

“Fine if we are going to be childish about this. How many breasts have been in your hands? And before you need clarification…”

“Lots. My fingers have been in a lot of wet…”

“God---not so descriptive, please,” Harper covered her ears.

He took her wrists in his hands and pulled them away, “Bullshit you want answers I am giving them to you. After every show I get a blowjob. I could have several but…”

“Okay Maddox I don’t want to know anything except this: has Jane been one of the people you have been with sexually?”

He looked at her and let out a frustrated breath, “It’s different with her then it is with you.”

Harper swallowed hard, “Is she the other one you have kissed?”

Yep, the kiss is all that matters! Oh and then he also lives with someone, a girl named Jazz, but that's also okay because.....

“Don’t you get it? It should have never happened. I am walking away because I can’t stay, I can’t be the other women. I can’t be…” - Harper

“The other! Jazz took comfort in my body Harper. I care about her. It’s not what I feel with you.” - Maddox

Really?

Harper has a really good heart, kind, sweet, innocent, a completely loveable character. She is smart too.... BUT, when it comes to Maddox, she is meek, easy and mindless.

At first I was rooting for Harper and Maddox's love story. But when Maddox became an ass who constantly hurts Harper, I wished her better. There is so much hang-ups in their relationship that is all Maddox. She really deserved better. I actually felt bad for her family who has to witness all these. I felt bad for both their families.

Not that there wasn't anyone else interested with Harper, there is Blake, but his character was never develop enough to mention really.

When the story started they were only 16 and 17 years old... you'll see them grow till they've reach their 20's. It is fast paced, a little bit too fast though.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the storyline cause it made me angry and hurt for Harper, riled me up on a lot of issues! There is a lot of angst and is quite emotional. But there was just way too much that is just wrong (for me) and I couldn't care less if I felt sorry for Maddox. And since this is a three part series, this is just the part of their story.

As for character growth and substance? I'm not so sure yet. Lol.

Do I wanna read the next book? I could say no, but I probably will. I really couldn't put it down once I started so that part is good too!

Written in multi POV's.

Tangled Threads

Tangled Threads - Jennifer Estep If I haven’t said it enough already, I’ll say it again, I love Gin Blanco, the bad-ass, sassy, sexy, cocky and smart heroine. And all the other supporting characters are consistent and never disappoints. In fact, their family is constantly growing. First there was just Gin, Fin, Jo-jo and Sophia… then comes Roslyn and Xander, then Owen, after this series, there might be 3 more added to their growing family. When I say family, it doesn’t mean by blood of course, except for Bria, Gin’s long lost sister.

More action, more suspense, fast paced delivery… all of which I look forward with, while Gin is slowly taking down Mab Monroe, Gin’s biggest untouchable and most powerful enemy. While Owen is proving himself to be just the perfect lover. I wish he could be a little bit more bad-ass though, but who knows, he might just surprise me yet.

In this book, Mab has hired an assassin to kill Gin, while Gin is dealing with her feelings towards Owen and then there’s her sister Bria who needs to know the truth.

While it is still doing that repetitive thing on characterization, I figured, maybe if I don’t read the next one right away, give it more time, I wouldn’t mind it as much. So that’s what I’m going to try to do. ;) Sucks though cause I really wanna follow up.

What I couldn’t care less with this one? Well … don’t you hate it when the enemy talks too much and not just do the kill? There’s just a lot of that. Then, I really hate it most when it’s in the middle of the action scene and it goes on pause cause suddenly we’re going down the memory lane… not too too fond of those either. ;)

Definitely an addictive series…. looking forward to the next and the next and the next….

Venom

Venom - Jennifer Estep 3.5 STARS!

Things I love in this series :

The bad-ass, sexy and smart assassin, Gin.... who controls two elemental, ice and stone.... and has become more bad-ass than ever.

Her team/friends/family : that would be her funny playboy brother or foster brother, Fin; and the dwarf sisters, the healer air elemental Jo-jo, who seems to have a premonition gift as well..... and the very expressive (NOT) Sophia, the cleaner, with her signature monosyllabic replies, actually they sound more like grunts really. Their group has only become tighter.... closer. And I gotta feeling their team is about to grow.

The hot and sexy stone elemental, Owen.... FINALLY, someone more deserving of Gin's attention. I don't wanna say more, just that, I love reading their scenes together, it was sweet and hot and heart melting.

And, I really enjoy the plot and I love the fast paced action that keeps me suspended in suspense.

EXCEPT!!! Now comes the things I really couldn't care less or I wish less of.....

On the first two books of the series, it was alright, I didn't mind it so much..... but now that we're on the third part of the series, I was kinda hoping that it would stop being repetitive on a lot of facts about the characters and background, as if we haven't already read about it enough from first two books. Nope, you get to read about it again and again.... Like, that Gin is the spider assassin, Mab Monroe is a fire elemental who wears her ruby rune around her neck, Fin is her foster brother who loves chicory coffee, Jo-jo grunts for replies and a whole lot more! AND, sorry but I do find some of Gin's liner's an overkill... She's better off with a little less... but that's just my choice. ;)

The thing is, this is a continues series, I would assume that if you must read, read the first book first, right? But with the rate it's going, you will not miss much if you start in the 2nd or 3rd book (can't speak for the rest of the book yet), cause everything that happened before is being told again here, and everyone is introduced like new repeatedly. (Luckily or unfortunately? (haha!) I am one of those who has to or MUST start at from the start, follows it's sequence... or it'll bug me all the time. ;) )

Moving on....

In this series... Roslyn, the vamp that owns and manages Northern Aggression club, needs help from an obsessed stalker! And the worst part, it's Mab Monroe's number one enforcer. And then there's a new detective in town and her name is Bria Coolidge , who just happens to be Gin's long lost sister....

To sum it up..... I really did loved it, all the action, suspense and humour with romance on the side... I am still addicted to the story, so I'm moving on to the 4th book.

Web of Lies

Web of Lies - Jennifer Estep 4.5 Action-packed STARS!

I love it when the book carries me away to a fantasy world full of mystery, suspense and action, sprinkled with intense emotions, I'm a goner for sure!

Gin retired? I doubt it. Trouble is her middle name! Gin, the fiery , kick-ass, sassy, spunky. smart, powerful and passionate assassin. And she's become more powerful too! I love her!

And I love her team, her family! Fin, her foster brother and now her handler, Jo-jo, the air elemental and healing dwarf (I wish she were my friend) and Jo-jo's sister Sophia, the cleaner. I really love their group dynamic.

Then there's supposedly Gin's "lust" interest, Detective Caine. In the first book, I had mix feelings with Detective Donovan Caine, with his admirable high moral but really a very confused and insensitive persona, so quick to paint Gin bad. He kept hurting Gin and I really wanna kick his ass! And Gin, I don't know why she tortures herself over him! He is just not worthy! She needs a man who will accept her for who she completely! Gin is not too smart when it comes to Caine though. But nope, no love lost between Caine and I, lol.

But now, enters another hottie who is also an elemental, Owen Grayson! Now, here's the man for Gin! Or he definitely gave me that impression. Now I wish to read more of them together!

“I don’t know what Detective Donovan Caine thinks or wants, but I consider him to be an enormous fool.”

“Why’s that?”

He stared at me. “Because he’s down there looking for Dawson, and I’m up here with you.”

In this book, Gin is supposedly retired, but then two punks decided to rob her barbecue joint, the Pork Pit, of all places, they picked the wrong one to mess with, but it doesn't help that the father of one of these punks just happens to be connected to Gin's biggest enemy, Mab Monroe, a powerful and untouchable fire elemental.

And if that wasn't enough, the incident was followed by a rapid gunfire at, again, her restaurant! But Gin later realized that the gunfire wasn't meant for her but for a Violet Fox, who came to the Pit to seek help, for her and her grandfather, against an evil coal mining tycoon who will stop at nothing to get their property.

Ergo, kick-ass assassin is back!!! ;)

A lot of intense thrilling scenes that had me squirming in my seat. And a revelation on Gin's tragic past, now she knows who was behind her mother and sister's murder... though I kinda figured who that would be from the first book. Still, this just confirms them.

It is funny, fast pace, intense, breathtaking and really addicting. Can't wait to read more!

Spider's Bite

Spider's Bite - Jennifer Estep 4.5 Stars!

Loved it! What's not to like.... Gin. a kick-ass heroine that's sassy, spunky, sexy, smart and confident....She is also an assassin... but only kills the bad ones. She is powerful, she can control the stone elements and then some, but she only use those as last resort, she relies on her skills and knives, her weapon of choice.

Great group dynamic. Sometimes a family doesn't have to be blood.

Easy world building, it's basically like our world mixed in some paranormal elements like Vampires, dwarves and giants, then there is the rich side and the poor side... leaving you with that urban fantasy feeling.

Then there is the hot, full of moral detective, Donovan Caine, who just happens to hate the Gin and wants to kill her, and at the same time is very attracted to her. And Gin just happens to be attracted to him too and is not shy to tell him... ;)

“You’re an attractive man, detective,” I said. “I’m an attractive woman. And here we are, all alone. Together.”

There are times I'd like to kick the detective's ass but at the same time admire his conviction.

An intriguing and thrilling story that had me from start to finish, though I do admit there are some background or flashback that I couldn't care less, but that was just somewhere in the beginning of the story... it went smooth and fast after. The climatic scene got me at the edge of my seat.

There are powerful enemies at play.

This book introduces us to the heroine, her world, her tragic past, how she became who she is now, her talent, and the people that surrounds her, her friends/family. As the blurb says, her handler, who is also like a father to her, was double crossed, tortured and killed, and she's out for revenge! From the start of the book you can read Gin in action right away...

Fast-paced, action-packed, suspenseful, funny and heartwarming... Looking forward to the next book.

Move the Sun

Move the Sun - Susan Fanetti 3.5 Stars!

Reviewed together with the 2nd book.... since the second one is the continuation of the first and I'm behind in my reads... hehe... ;)

Behold the Stars (Signal Bend Series)

Behold the Stars (Signal Bend Series) - Susan Fanetti 4.5 INTENSE Stars

I have started reading the first book a while back but I don't know why I stopped... I'm glad my friend, Silvana, called my attention to this again.... what with all the hype she's heard about it..... :)

In the first part of the series we were introduced to Lilli, who was wrongfully accused and dismissed from the army.... and then there's the Night Horde biker club with Isaac, the biker pres. We also got to know the small town called Signal Bend, Missouri.

Isaac and Lilli met, attracted and f*cked (hard)., A Lot! Then comes love. But Lilli came to Signal Bend for a purpose and she won't stop till she accomplished what she came for.

Both characters are tough and It's not often you get to read a book where the woman sounds more kick ass than the men. And Lilli certainly is stubborn, sassy and bad-ass. I really like her, though sometimes I find her character too much.... While Isaac seems to have this soft spot when it comes to Lilli. I love Isaac, I think he is hot and all that.. but I would have preferred him to be a lot more tougher, and I'm not saying he isn't... I just like me a bad biker... ;) But he definitely knows how to treat his woman right...

Lilli's problem has been taken cared off in book one, their story continues in this second part of the series. This time Isaac is dealing with a very powerful enemy who wants to take over Signal Bend and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. And Isaac has to do everything to protect his club and their family, the townspeople, and of course Lilli.

While I can say that with this second book, it solidifies Isaac and Lilli's relationship, they also went through a really rough stage, dealing with a lot of personality conflict and personal issues. But they compliment each other, makes them the perfect couple.

There is definitely a lot of action, and is pretty violent, and whole lot of suspense! It was shocking, emotional and intense. I loved it! Though I was kinda thinking, poor Lilli, it is always her. Lucky she is strong and she got Isaac.

You will also get to know more and love the other members of the club... My heart goes out to Show, the clubs VP, and I can't wait to read his part of the story, cause I get the feeling there will be one or there is already, I'm way behind in this series, hehe. And I'm also beginning to love the townspeople of Signal Bend too...

Written under dual POV.

Even In Darkness

Even In Darkness - Cyndi Tefft

Just a short spoiler-free review and sharing at least two of favourite quotes at the end...

Like the blurb says, I thought it was over too, that they finally have their happily ever after…. but the Hell Transporter is back, disguising herself as Lindsey and had sex with a drunk Aiden to get what she came for from the start, a child from Aiden. Thus, creating more trouble for Aiden and Lindsey.

In this series, their love and faith is again being tested. Specially Lindsey’s.

What I love about Ms. Tefft’s writing is that it’ll capture your attention from start to finish and warms your heart with such awe-inspiring, emotional, fast paced, and spiritual story with brilliant world building.

This is a story with substance... To mention a few : It shows as to what length Lindsey would go to save Aiden. In sickness and in health, till death us do part? It also proves how strong their faith in God… And that evil never wins specially when embraced with so much love and kindness...

A new villain, Aegan, is introduced… although I could not hate him though.

This is written in multi POV. And it ended with a surprise and a hint of, I’m guessing, more to come?!.

Here are at least two of my favourite quotes in this series :

❤️❤️❤️

I would rather die again with this man than live a thousand lives with another. – Lindsey

“You’re so much more than beautiful. Your spirit is joy, and fire, and strength. When I look at ye, I don’t just see your lovely body, your sparkling green eyes, and your wild, unruly hair.” He wrapped one curl around his finger and let it spring free. “When I look at ye, I see…home.” – Aiden

❤️❤️❤️

Jahleel (Loving All Wrong #1)

Jahleel (Loving All Wrong #1) - S. Ann Cole 4.5 Obsessive Stars!

I needed to take a moment after reading this book cause I was that emotionally transfixed.

This. Book. Is. About. OBSESSION

It is NOT a traditional romance.

It deviates from the norm.

It defies…EVERYTHING.

This. Book. Is. About. OBSESSION

Saskia Day, rich, beautiful, talented and famous, she can have anything she wants except that one thing she really wants, Jahleel Kingston or JK. He became her obsession since the first time she got a glimpse of him, yes, with just a glimpse! While JK shrug her off like she is nothing.

image

It's like this for the most part, JK couldn’t be bothered by Saskia, while Saskia tries to reign in her obsession for sometime with the help of her career that kept her busy. But even that did not last. She moved from UK to the US to follow him and even changed her hair colour for him!

I really wanted to hate Saskia but despite her only weakness or insanity that is JK, she is really a strong, feisty and loving person. She takes care of her siblings, and is very protective specially with her brother. And they call her “Ma” which I thought was really sweet.

But when it comes to JK, all her brain goes out the window. A lot of times I wanna shake her till she wakes up!

The more so when she got close to JK…. This OBSESSION turned LOVE which turns to Obsessive Love…. an unrequited love that has completely gone wrong.

“If I let go of him, I’ll let go of life.”

I seriously hated JK for most part of this book, he knows how Saskia feels and it felt like he is playing with her emotions. But you can also sense there is something seriously wrong with JK. He is, as what you’d call, a “broken” person. He is so mysterious. What I didn’t know is that this book is a spinoff of Billionaire Brother’s series “I choose You” and since I have not read that book, I don’t know much about JK’s background. Just that he seems to have this strong issues with his parents and that he seems to be pining over his adopted sister Krissy. Then despite all his crazies, he does something that makes you love him too.

Then there’s Chad… he is everything that is perfect for Saskia… and he wants Saskia to choose him…

Did I not mention this book is emotionally frustrating? Not to mention all the sexual frustration too!

image

It drove me crazy really, yet I couldn’t put it down… except that time when Saskia listened to “Say Something” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera, and I stopped reading to listen to the music and lyrics… then cried with her.

Intense, edgy and heart wrenching. This is the first book that I’ve read by S. Ann Cole, and definitely not the last!

Written under Saskia’s POV.

Hell Transporter (Volume 2)

Hell Transporter (Volume 2) - Cyndi Tefft 5++ Holy Scotsman Hotness Star!

There's just something about Aiden that is refreshing, sexy and hot!

The story continues where it left on the first part of the series and this time Aiden is given a second chance and is now in the real world with Lindsey. But boy, has he got a lot to learn in order to fit and blend. And while Lindsey worries, like I did, Aiden was able to calm Lindsey (and me), that everything is going to be okay. Cause he believes. To trust in... Faith.Hope.Love.

image

If I loved Aiden before, I love him a whole bunch more here! He is smart, proud, loving, protective, and just, AMAZING.

And I could not have picked a better partner for him with Lindsey. She is sweet and kind and totally got his back... though she would worry (I would too) because she wants to protect Aiden, still, she believes and supports him all the way. It also helps that they can still communicate with each other mentally. Plus, I have to admire a woman who isn't shy to let her husband know how much she wants him! ;)

But what is a story without a little more twist right? Enters the Hell Transporter who wants Aiden. And Lindsey would rather die than lose Aiden again. Atta girl!

I loved it! It made me laugh, specially Aiden's reaction to the modern world; and don't even get me started on what he thought a box of Trojan condoms was. ;)

New characters are introduced... And I love the relationship that Lindsey have with her parents. I also learned a little something about the Scottish culture, which I thought was pretty cool!!!!

This book proves/solidifies the love between Lindsey and Aiden and it was beautiful and humbling to read!

It is brilliantly written, it's captivating and it touches your heart.. so romantic and uplifting.

Until You're Mine

Until You're Mine - K. Langston 4 HOT STARS!

image

We got to know a little bit about Archer on the first book "Because You Are Mine". He is Holden's cousin who got this hard exterior around him... Now, I'm glad to finally put a story behind all that Archer hotness!

If I were to rate this book for hotness alone, I'll give it a 10!!!! You can feel right away the attraction between Katy and Archer and it is steamy hot! And if you are into possessive and controlling alphas, then this book is definitely for you.

Archer has been burned before, making it hard for him to trust anyone with his heart... But his attraction to Katy is undeniable... and fight as he might not to let Katy in, she keeps knocking down this wall he built around his heart. But boy was he stubborn! I wanna hug him and then hit him in the head at the same time.

Katy is not one of those whiny female that I care not... she has this sweet and lively personality that you'll easily like. She also has this rebellious streak in her being brought up by a father who is a preacher, and who constantly reminds her about morals and scripture. And much as she loves Archer, she wants all of him, she wants to own him as much as he owns her.

It didn't take me long to finish the book, it completely had me at "MINE"... It is a little edgy, definitely romantic, and sexually hot and sexy.

And it's written on dual POV.

Between

Between - Cyndi Tefft Between the blurb and the cover, well, I decided to check it out.. plus I was looking for a light read... and again, I'm really glad I did!

I would classify this as for older YA or as NA, cause even though it wasn't quite torrid, but yes, there are sex scenes, which I thought was sweet.

The protagonist, Lindsey, has this loveable character... she is sweet and passionate with a fun personality, and who just happens to fall in love with the grim ripper, Aiden.

Aiden, a grim ripper for 300 years, also has this sweet personality and is very conservative, given that he was born on the olden times... He is definitely hot and sexy, with a Scottish accent.... And Aiden, not long after meeting Lindsey, also fell in love with her.

So... they met, instant attraction and fell in love... I'm a romantic and there's a lot of that instant-love going around, so be it.

image

In the beginning, I was questioning where the story was going really... being that they are both just stuck in the "in between". But I did enjoy getting to know Aiden... cause then Aiden would show Lindsey his life's memory which takes us 300 years back... and Lindsey showed Aiden the present modern times. And I find Aiden's reaction to the modern times, amusing.

“Aye, for certain. But truthfully lass, I wouldn’t be surprised if you climbed the walls like a spider and hung from the ceiling like a bat, for all I’ve seen today. I cannot even describe what it’s like to go forward three hundred years in the future and to see how things have changed. I don’t understand it, but thank you for showing me your home.” - Aiden

Love it! Love him...

I also enjoyed reading Lindsey's background, her friends, her passion and family.

Then finally, there it was. That twist of the story that I know was coming but just didn't know which way it'll go?! So, now I'm intrigue!

I don't wanna say more cause then I would be telling the story. Just that it is a well written, and is captivating, romantic, sweet, and very promising start of a series that left me wondering what is next for Lindsey and Aiden?

Against All Odds

Against All Odds - Angie McKeon 5 Very Emotional Stars!!!!

I actually just picked up this book without knowing what it's about (or I might have but I have forgotten what it was about)... but I'm sooo glad I did!!! There is a hell of a lot of angst here that is so emotional that I.Could.Not.Breathe!

There’s nothing we can do.
This is the end of a shattered dream.
Our spirits are slowly dying, and I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to heal.

A lot of times while reading this, my mind was reeling and I felt conflicted and so heartbroken... that's how much it has affected me! The characters, Kylie and Cooper, they are so broken, I just kept thinking, how do you fix it? How do you you fix them? And will they be able to move on if they do?

LOST.
BROKEN.
TORTURED SOULS.

Kylie, I wanted to hate her but at the same time I felt her pain, her guilt, her love for Cooper... but I certainly don't agree with her choices! It would be so easy to judge her if you can't feel her pain inside.

image

Cooper, Kylie's husband, in the beginning, I really didn't like him, I hated him, wanted him to man up! Then comes the other half of the book which is under Cooper's POV and then everything changed. I'm feeling his pain, his failure, his realization and his fight... And to think I was so ready to hate him! It's so easy to judge when we don't know how they felt inside. And though he is as much to blame, she is too.

image

And then there's Grayson, the best friend who is caught in the middle of it all... who fell in love with Kylie in the process. I love Grayson! He was the one who was always there for Kylie, her confidant, her saviour, her best friend and he is willing to wait and fight for her. He was perfect in all sense.

Then again, I could not dismiss Cooper! Truly if their love is so strong, enough to save each other, forgive, to fight, to move on and save their marriage, they should work on that, right? Who says love is perfect?

We need to have something to work for, or we have nothing. I love him, but this love hurts. It hurts in a way I would’ve never dreamed it could.

I love how the story moved forward and resolved... to hope and to fight for ones dreams and desires.

Uniquely different love story that is superbly written, with a lot of angst, that is heartbreaking and very inspirational. A definite must read.

I never really expected to what length the story would go! And OMG, I'm flabbergasted! ! I couldn't even care less about Jeremy's psychobabble. Man, what an A-hole! I've read a lot of bastard lead characters and Stonehart comes to the top of my list.

That said.... despite everything that Lilly is going through, she still tries to keep her sanity! I can't even imagine how she's doing it! It's crazy!

A must read if you like dark, edgy and whole lot of angst and mystery.

This takes us a step more to Lilly's torture and a hint of the kind of person Stonehart is. My mind is still reeling with so many questions though. And I am so thirsty for more. It is torture waiting for the next book!

Thank you Ms. Scarlett Edwards for the privilege!!!
